That approach creates practice, but it does not always create improvement.
SSC CGL PYQs become valuable when candidates use them to understand how concepts are tested, where time is lost and why apparently familiar questions still produce wrong answers. “Revise Quant” is not a useful instruction. Neither is “improve English.”
A revision task should be narrow enough to complete and measure.

A question solved through long algebra may have a faster ratio, approximation or option-elimination approach. Write down the shortest reliable method and practise recognising when it applies.
Calculation drills are helpful, but question selection matters just as much under sectional timing.
General Intelligence and Reasoning
PYQs help build pattern recognition. Record recurring structures such as series, analogy, classification, coding-decoding and non-verbal reasoning.
When a puzzle remains unclear after initial inspection, leaving it may be more profitable than forcing a solution while shorter questions remain.
English Comprehension
Identify the rule behind every grammar answer. Do not merely remember which option was correct.
For vocabulary questions, record the tested word with its meaning and one sentence. For error spotting or sentence improvement, note why the rejected options fail. This makes elimination faster in unfamiliar questions.
General Awareness
Use past papers to identify recurring subject areas, not to memorise only old current-affairs answers.
Classify questions under history, polity, geography, economics, science, current affairs and static general knowledge. When one category repeatedly causes errors, revise the concept from a current and dependable source before returning to PYQs.
Use PYQs and Mock Tests for Different Purposes
A previous-year paper contains real historical questions. It helps candidates understand how the examination has tested concepts.
A fresh mock asks whether those lessons can be applied to an unfamiliar paper.
After repairing the weaknesses found through PYQs, attempt one of the current-pattern SSC CGL mock tests. Compare the result with your earlier performance.

Preparing only chapters that appeared frequently in a small sample is risky. Topic distribution can vary between shifts, and even familiar concepts may be presented differently.
PYQs should guide the order of preparation, not shrink the syllabus.
